Guilty Pleasures

Parents, Peers, Teachers, and Seers, dictating since birth — how to sit, stand, and sleep. How to breathe and how it ought to be.

Telling us lies, feeding us gloom, teaching us how to fit in the goddamn room.

“Don’t take up space, don’t talk, don’t opine. If you have a question — raise your hand, get in line.

The strength in your voice terrifies me, must be your fault — I was born sin-free.

You think you’re tough, to him you must bend. Your fragility is his strength, let him have it — pretend!

You have ideas that uplift and are kind? We don’t need more Jacindas, capitalism is our shrine.”

There is but one question I have for all my Queens — Why have these notions of what we are supposed to be? Unless it’s harming others (or, you plan on going all Purge), throw in your towels and do what you love!

We hold ourselves to lofty standards owing simply to what has been fed to us as an “Ideally,…”

Maybe dessert is bad for breakfast but, you know what is worse? Forcing yourself to eat chia seeds because that’s “healthy”.

Guilty pleasures don’t exist, it’s your indulgence — to them — that is preposterous — questioned under the guise of responsibilities and religion.

We need value in our lives — the kind that in no shape or form is dictated by an outside opinion!

What makes you happy should be relished, in every way it fills your bucket. Your life is Creation — wild and free, just the way you have always been!
